Biography
Ms. Cumberbatch is a native of Brooklyn, New York. Her father, Harold Cumberbatch, the great baritone saxophonist, named her Donna Lynn after Miles Davis’ composition “Donna Lee”, made famous by Charlie Parker. The stage was set for her musical voyage. Ms. Cumberbatch has toured extensively in such places as the Caribbean, Europe, Canada, West Africa, Russia, Japan, and the United States of America. She has worked extensively with trumpeter Hannibal Loukumbe as the featured vocalist in two of his symphonies “Children of the Fire” and “Flames of South Africa”. She has also performed his suite “Fannie Lou Hamer” with the Kronos Quartet and “Love Poems to God” with dancer/choreographer, Dianne McIntyre and his ensemble. Other artists with whom Ms. Cumberbath has perfomed with are John Hicks, The Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra, Diedre Murray, Lonni Plaxico, Onaje-Alan Gumbs, Curtis Lundy, Cecil Brookls III, Steve Wilson, Andy Bey, Al Harewood, Cecil Payne, and Romero Lubambo to name a few. She currently works with The Baritone Saxophones, Thr Ray Abrams Big Band. The Brooklyn Repertory Ensemble, and her own Magnificent Trio. Ms. Cumberbatch has produced three recordings on Ki-Ki Records. The next soon to be released recording is entitled “Seasoned Elegance” She can also be heard on numerous other recordings with various artists. Her smooth, sultry, soulful sound has captivated thousands of people around the world. She has been compared to her mentors Sarah Vaughan, Gloria Lynne, and Carmen McRae, but clearly exhibits her own unique enchanting style.
